Your Guide To Female Overactive Bladder
Urinary incontinence is the inability to control the release of urine from your bladder. It represents a major social and hygiene problem in the aging population. About 48% of women are affected. The problem has varying degrees of severity. Some people experience only occasional, minor leaks or dribbles of urine, while others wet their clothes frequently. Urinary incontinence ranges from occasionally leaking urine upon coughing or sneezing to having sudden, unpredictable episodes of strong urinary urgency. Typically when a person experiences a loss of bladder control the problem is usually quite embarrassing and terribly inconvenient. Some women have reported feeling depressed, stressed, and sleep-deprived. Living in constant fear and stress is incredibly harmful to your state of mind. Prolonged suffering can result in a whole myriad of secondary symptoms. Incontinence is only the first issue; anxiety, nervous tension, anger, and depression are some of the other problems that can surface because of stress you carry worrying about frequent urination and control. Think of it like a twisted garden hose. If you have noticed a decrease in water pressure coming from the hose, you only have to look down the line to see that it has been twisted up or bent in some way. Treating urinary incontinence can be as easy as untwisted the garden hose, you just have to recognize the symptoms and then do something about it. There are several types of urinary incontinence Stress Incontinence is a loss of urine when you cough, sneeze, laugh or do anything to exert pressure on the bladder. A weakened sphincter muscle close to the bladder typically causes this Urge Incontinence is a sudden, intense urge to urinate followed by an involuntary loss of urine. This can be caused by a urinary tract infection or by anything that irritates the bladder Overflow Incontinence is an inability to completely empty your bladder, often caused by a damaged bladder, a blocked urethra, prostate gland problems, nerve damage or some medications Gross Total Incontinence is a continuous leaking of urine in which the bladder has no storage capacity, caused by an anatomical defect, a spinal cord injury, an injury to the urinary system from surgery, or from an abnormal opening between the bladder and an adjacent structure Although urinary incontinence affects millions of people, it isn't a normal part of aging or the inevitable consequence of childbirth or changes after menopause. Urinary incontinence is a symptom that indicates an underlying problem or condition that likely can and should be treated. Causes Urinary miseries for women often started with a weaken bladder sphincter, pelvic floor muscles or ureathra-bladder tissues. Testosterone and estrogen level change during menopause, menstrual periods, constipation, damage to pelvic floor muscle from childbirth, or taking prescription drugs can cause atrophy and shrinkage of these urinary sphincter, tissues, and muscles.
